Pro: Pretty and simple to use on iOS Same style on OS X iCloud sync seems to work well now (rocky at first) Con: Not really efficient to use on OS X Non-intuitive interaction on OS X (touch gestures don’t translate well to OS X) Suffers from obfuscating too many features to keep minimalist look Updates come once in awhile with shallow features. You can’t customize individual list themes. Summary: Flashy list app for those who want colourful lists.
4 star app because it is still missing location based remonders.. once that has been added.. this will be a 5 star app for me.. pesky icloud sync issues seem to have been fixed in this latest version.. still wish we could sync using dropbox instead… 1Password works so well with dropbox sync.
This review is a followup to the previous review (see below) It seems to be asserted in subsequent reviews that purchasers of Clear+ (iPhone & iPad) around 2014 were wrong in claiming that the Clear (or Clear+) updates broke the iOS/OS X link. This is untrue. I purchased Clear+ (OS X & iOS) back in 2014, and the update did indeed break the sync. I tried (recently: Jul 19, 2015) to acquire the asserted iTunes available update and it failed again with "App Not Available in the Canadian Store.” To review: I purchased Clear back in 2014 for OS X and iOS X and was very pleased with the sync and the app itself (frankly if you are confident you can get the sync to work, then buy the app). I use a number of ToDo apps (among them Things which I strongly recommend) and had segregated my tasks into personal & business categories: using Clear/Clear+ for personal ToDo’s. It worked beautifully until the update late 2014 - when, for iPad iCloud the sync just failed and for iPhone I got and still get “App Not Available in the Canadian Store.” So, I occassionally still use Clear between Mac’s, but for iOS sync i have given up. The sync between Mac and iOS (early editions) remains broken, and I find it infuriating that I should need to buy a new version of the app to restore functionality that I had. I do not write reviews frivolously. If I write a review claiming that the app broke, then it broke. I want to be able to use Clear/Clear+ - I generally like it, ok really: I like it - *but* it is broken on iOS updates (from 2014) and I will not buy an app twice for a single platform because updates failed. If the sync (after update) worked, I would use the app and remove this review. Specifically: OS X sync works fine. iPad detects a new version and updates but (painfully) fails to sync under iCloud. iPhone, even with an App delete and reinstall in Canada (for Clear+) states (Jul 19. 2015) “Update Required” which causes a (App Store) redirect which declares: “Item Not Available - The item that you’ve requested is not currently available in the Canadian Store.” So whatever I bought in 2014 for iPhone does not update nor sync with whatever exists in 2015. I like the app; I do - but it just needs to work (on iOS iPhone: launch as-is and sync, and on iPad: sync). The previous review stands. I purchased an iOS application - and it simply does not work anymore (in less than one year’s use). From the receipt: Clear+ Tasks & To-Do List, v1.0.5 (4+) - REALMAC SOFTWARE LIMITED - iOS App Mac App - $4.99 - 1 February, 2014 Previous Review: From Canada: I *really* liked Clear (Clear+ back when) because it was cool to use and sync-ed well between my Mac and iOS devices. I bought both the OS X and iOS versions. But with iOS 8, all that happens when you try to enable iOS iCloud sync is that you get redirected to the App Store which then announces that (the required App is) “Item Not Available. The item that you’ve requested is not available in the Canadian Store.” The seller previously sold the old App in Canada; why not in courtesy maintain it in the Canadian Store? Clear+ does not sync with the new iCloud Drive across iOS 8 (in Canada) and is useless without sync. Please fix, and I’ll like it again. Until then, I do not recommend. Near as I can tell (speculatively), the Retailer removed the old application for IOS (Clear+) and expects the consumer to buy the updated version, simply called Clear. The App Store tries to tell me that I do not own the application despite having it on my iOS devices and having a receipt for it. The situation occurs on an iPhone 6 running iOS 8. Simply not impressed with the apparent customer treatment - independent of the niceties of the app. No future purchases for this from me. The review is here because I apparently do not own the iOS versions (which are somehow installed on three iOS devices) but do apparently still own the OS X version. Because I do “not" own the IOS versions, I can not review them there.
I use the iOS app predominantly and only want the Mac version to do occasional bulk editing. However, syncing is always a chore: go to the support side, follow all the instructions, wait a while (2 minutes? A couple hours? And then finally the sync happens, but could be in the wrong direction). Admittedly, iCloud services are weak, but Realmac could use one of the alternatives on the market. Or perhaps support a “push” button from either app to clearly control what is the master.
I love clear, my wife and I used to have our phones under the same account so our lists would sync between phones. With the changes to family sharing and such thats no longer possible (for our purposes). I REALLY wish there was a way to add her to specific lists so those lists would sync between phones. Missing out on this for the past year has been very sad. Clear was used every day in our home, now its not. I love this app, its so awesome, I hope this feature gets added. Thats the only reason for the missing star. (I know you can email lists to each other, but they don’t update live across phones when you do that. We can’t both be checking items off the list and see the others progress.)
Awesome app.
I’ve been using Clear for several years now. It works great! I’ve used OmniFocus 2 as well. However, I find Clear is really all I need in an organizer. You need to spend a lot of time to get the value out of OmniFocus. Clear is simple to use, its navigation is clean and fun. Highly recommended!
After enjoying access to calendar, notes, contacts and todos in Outlook during my Windows days, I kept trying to find a similar all-in-one app when I switched to Apple a few years ago. I gave up and finally settled on at least having todos and calendar together in Fantastical. But maintaining todos in Fantastical turned out to be fussy. Fantastical’s Apple Watch app works OK, but requires several taps to get to the todos, and they cannot be sorted into a few lists. I am not one of those folks who like complex todo managment, but I do like having a half dozen different lists. So I finally spent the nearly $20 Canadian to install Clear on my iPhone, iPad, Mac and iMac. The learning curve was as fast as the installation procedure. Only took half an hour to get set up and switched over to Clear on all my devices. Clear has its own user interaction methods (swipes and taps on iDevices, mouse and could use trackpad but I don’t on Mac). iCloud sync was a breeze to set up and worked flawlessly, but I had to wait a few minutes for changes on one device to propagate. Delighted to see that dragging items between lists works so easily. The Mac window is small so I can park it on all desktops. The Watch app and glance are the best of the todo Watch app implementations I have found yet: very accessible and easy. For me, 4 starts is great and 5 is near perfection. So far I give Clear 4+. No regrets at all.
If sync doesn’t work then tthis app is useless to me; it used to function properly before but after the new OS X it nevery syncronized with thee iCloud again, even after signing out if iCloud and back in, etc.
Clear is indespensible to me and my GTD workflow. Incredibly easy to use as an “inbox” for capture everything for sorting. That said, it is FAR better on an iPhone, iPad, etc. The desktop app is not easy to use with a trackpad and down near difficult with a mouse. The app is beloved on touch screens—but annoyingly frustrating on a traditional computer. I imagine if they allowed the user to increase sensitivities, make the gestures more compatible for use with a mouse, etc. it’d go a long way. But as it stands, three-stars even what this version gets compared to a near perfect score on an iPad/iPhone.
Best to do list hands down! Its my favorite app for IOS and am glade to see it on OSX. Simple and clean!
Great interface as compared to other list managers. I use it only for routines.
This is a grand app and if I were to review it for mobile devices, it would definitely get a five-star review. However, maybe it’s the ios 8 update, but Clear was, indeed, synching with my iPad without a problem. Now, even when I re-download it, Clear on my Mac does not synch with any changes I’ve made either with my iPad or iPhone. Now, it may not seem fair to judge such a great past performer, but honestly, without the synch feature, Clear becomes useless. We have all come to depend upon updates of pics and other files through the iCloud feature. What gives? Who knows?
I love this app on my iPhone: it is simple and fast to use, and that’s what makes it great. I’ve been using it for years, now. Then I spent several times what I payed for the iOS app to get the OS X version of it on my mac, thinking it would be nice to quickly edit my lists while I’m at the computer. Well I was wrong: the OS X version of Clear is clunky, slow, and frustrating to use because it doesn’t make use of the gestures that make the iOS version great. Now, the welcome guide for the app DOES SAY THAT YOU CAN pinch and use a few gestures to navigate around in the app, but none of the gestures work for me when I try them (and I’ve tried A LOT!) Paying way more for the desktop version would lead one to think that it would be way better, but it’s not: it’s pretty lousy. My advice: stick to the iOS version of the app. Until the team adds gesture support for the OS X version, I’ll be staying away from it (it’s too slow to use!—very frustrating when you’ve become accustomed to flying through your lists on the iPhone.)
stops using icloud to sync. quite annoying. been using for about 2 years. time for something new.
The sync doesn’t work at all. I foolishly fell in love with UI and sound effects and bought versions for my iPhone, iPad and Mac. Paid a lot of money for a useless app that doesn’t sync. When I wrote to support the just sent me to read a link on iCloud settings, etc. trying to explain away as user error, when in fact you can see that several reviews complain about the sync feature. It would be fair to say that all the posisitive reviews are for users on a single device. So if you need something that syncs, don’t buy this product because it doesn’t work.
Works really great. Though minimalism is CLEARs advantage, following preferences could increase productivity. - change the font size (more smaller) - set alerm - add note also, please try to solve "Japanese input" issue. Many Japanese user claim this.
Does not enable to sync between iOS and OSX. But simple and easy to use. Hope this’ll be fixed ;) iPhoneとの同期がされません。
